‘greenroom’, modestly nestled in a quieter spot opposite The Ritz and round the corner from The ‘Cornerhouse’, offers something refreshing and thought provoking compared with other bars and clubs in the area. First and foremost, it’s a contemporary performance venue, showcasing some of the hottest, most groundbreaking, emerging, international and local live art, experimental theatre and performance in the UK. Because of its innovative, contemporary work, greenroom attracts crowds of; artists, art students, actors, performers, musicians, photographers and film makers. The eclectic mixture of Bohemian audiences makes the late night bar, the coolest, underground hangout in Manchester where conversation regarding; performance, film, sociology, religion, gender, sexuality, the media, literature, politics, (in fact anything a little bit more intelligent than Heat magazine) is easy to find. There are different nights hosted by different people, notably, ‘Green Bohemia’ by SA Promotions with some of Manchester’s best Acoustic acts and ‘Jam Side Up’ who have better records than anyone I have ever met. ‘Speakeasy’ and ‘Vaudeville’ are also classic nights hosted at the greenroom with film, music, poetry, performance and lots more off-the-wall surprises!.It’s the kind of place its regulars will look back on with nostalgia in 20 years time and think, “God, we were cool!”
