Review of Surf Curse
The band were great so no complaints there my problem is the venue. First the room itself is lovely but may be more appropriate for a wedding or business conference now despite its musical past.
It’s like walking into a school disco it feels weird and uncomfortable . The bar staff are pretty useless and the drinks are expensive. Also take ID even if you’re old, some of them blanket ID everyone.
I also got charged different prices for the same drinks.
There’s lots and lots of rules. Don’t sit there, don’t stand there, you can’t walk through that door it’s a circular system. Only one drink per Id. It really added to the school disco vibe. I had to get drunk to tolerate it.
Also you won’t be allowed to take in an almost empty rucksack because it will take up too much space, while on your back, in a massive room that’s only 25% full. I think it’s more about getting three quid out of you than anything else so take a bum bag or have a lot of pockets if you don’t feel like getting ripped off for a cloakroom you are being forced to use.
Anyway the music was fine but the venue is s**te, school disco vibes way too many rules, just awful really. The one plus is that now I know what it’s like to go to a school disco; I always knew I wouldn’t like it.
It’d take Leonard Cohen rising from his grave and putting on a show there to make me waste my money in that place again.
