About

Having sold out the Carlton in January Manchester/Berlin's poetic beat combo HANN return to launch their first album, Forever in a Glance.

Already a BBC6Music Favourite, with their My Mum Was Nico's Driver scoring single and lyric of the year with Gideon Coe at the end of 2022, they will be playing a live session of songs from the album for Marc Riley and Gideon Coe late evening on Wednesday 5 June and live in concert at the Carlton.

HANN are Hannah Fitzpatrick and her dad Neil who was once married to Nico's driver and has had careers in The Smirks and Distant Cousins, writing and arranging music for video installations such as WOO, and he also spent 20 years propping up the bar in the Rover's Return.

They are joined by Rick who plays drums on HANN's recordings, and by Rob and Dave. They write songs with Edward Barton who is celebrating forty years of hits, and possibly a billion-plus streams, with versions and samples of It's A Fine Day.

Brown Wimpenny are the young singers of the old songs and the new dancers of the old jigs. Described by The Quietus as a source of “energy, eccentricity, communion and joy”; they weave traditional music, from the British Isles and beyond, into a web of drones, choral harmonies, and dense textures.
Based in South Manchester, and inspired by the vibrant culture that the city holds, the eleven-piece wishes to share the music of the people and to build a community around it. With four sell-out headline shows under their belts, they have played with fellow trad curiosities Goblin Band, Seb Stone and Milkweed, and made appearances at Factory International and the Broadside Hacks Folk Club in London.
Having dipped their toes in post-punk, classical, experimental noise, and dance music projects; now the artists are poised to carve their slice of the scene from which to expand this folk experiment.

Ed Barton will follow up his wrestling turn as TED, suffering yet another defeat at the hands of giant panda TON on the dance floor of the Carlton, with his new work in progress Bbird with Two Bs.
