Open Forum is a regular event where we invite different activist groups, community organisations and anyone who wants to make a positive difference to come together around a specific topic to learn, share and socialise.
This month we are looking at our own inhouse project Taphouse TV Dinners.
Taphouse TV Dinners is a food outreach programme which started as a COVID response project. We deliver meals in the local community made at the Old Abbey Taphouse using food surplus from Fareshare. Deliverers are volunteers, usually on bike. We prepare an average of 70 meals a week with a meat and veggie option as a main and a dessert.
We've found in the past couple of years that despite our distance from COVID, the event that started the project, the need has actually increased.
We're proud of TV Dinners and what we've been able to deliver to local residents, but in light of new issues facing us including cost of living crisis and environmental challenges we want to invite our community in to help us develop it further. We want to build on what is here already, and use the knowledge and learning of our community to make it even better.
After this period of development we hope to teach other venues in Manchester how to run similar projects in their local areas.
If you are interested in food, community or activism - or if you've ever had any involvement in the project over the past four years - please come down and chip in, we'd love you to get involved.
