Red Laser Galactic Bounce w/ Acrelid (live)

"I first discovered Acrelid through the mind blowing ‘Illegal Rave Tapes’ project. Buzzing to find out that he had tons of stuff already recorded, plus loads of other mad projects, including a DJ mix of vintage arcade game soundtracks (check the link!), and some other crazy experimental shit on his youtube channel, (real name) John Lee Richardson certainly piqued my beak and I did some heavy digging on this cat. After a few fruitless attempts to get in touch, contact was finally made! John’s never played out live before, a true studio hermit who I doubt has seen much sunlight in the last twenty years (we’ll defo be checking out his ‘studio tan’ when he makes the trip over from Immingham to confirm!).

Sharing much of the mindset of our own DJ Absolutely Shit – Acrelid chews on the best bits of 90s rave and E-culture, adds a good dollop of anti-Thatcherite rebellion and digests it through an intestine of primitive music software & advanced electronics before pooping it out as a fully formed package of underground dance music pressure, decorating it all in his own killer artwork which takes the piss out of the Criminal Justice Bill and the anti-rave propaganda of the time. Singular and innovative, there’s simply no-one like Acrelid doing this shit with such vigour and authenticity so we’re mega buzzed to have him debuting his live set for us at Red Laser.

Support on the night comes from Whalley Range’s Steve Barnett AKA Defcult – astonishingly, another debut! This cosmic cat has got psychedelic 5D robo-chug for dayyyyys – literally! Just step inside his trippy tree house (if you’re lucky enough to get an invite) and you’ll emerge a few days later with your cranium twisted inside out! Seriously, we’re well lucky to get on this gee before anyone else. I say anyone else, half of Manchester's probably been to one of his weekend long psychedelic soirees... But this is his first 'proper club' debut!

Closing the session alongside myself is rising Welsh troublemaker Rhod Parry whose terrace-friendly house & techno ticklers have been providing me with plenty of feels throughout the year thus far. Super excited to see him blast TWH a new one as the sun rises over Strangeways…" KP x
