On the 4th of March 1964, the Grenadier Guards were granted the Freedom of the City of Manchester, allowing the Regiment to march through the City with 'Colours flying, drums beating, and bayonets fixed'.
2024 marks the 60th anniversary of being granted this privilege and to mark the occasion and the Regiment's close ties with Manchester, the Grenadier Guards will host a celebratory weekend starting on Saturday the 31st of August.
The Freedom Parade will start at 10.30am on the steps of Central Library on St Peter's Square and will proceed to march past the Cenotaph to Princess Street, Portland Street, Oxford Street and then back to the front of the library.
After the march through the city centre, we are hosting a concert featuring The Regimental Band of the Grenadier Guards and a detachment of Regimental Association personnel who will be lead by Director of Music Captain Andrew Porter.
