Review of SOUL\'ed OuT Presents. Live on stage Soul legend KENNY THOMAS
Venue and sound system were extremely poor and bordered on amateurish. Kenny Thomas was professional with a great voice but the equipment was not of a good enough standard

Review of SOUL\'ed OuT Presents. Live on stage Soul legend KENNY THOMAS
I have been to many Skiddle events, mainly at Hoochie Coochie in Newcastle. I have seen Kenny Thomas twice at that venue both with his band and love him. I therefore didn't hesitate in traveling to Teeside forthe event at ****ens.
I bought meet and greet tickets fir my lady and we turned up early at the venue to assure good seats. Met at the door by Stevie who was clearly the organiser who requested we went downstairs for a drink while the sound check was carried out- fair enough.
Returning upstairs at 815 was met again by Stevie who took our e ticket and clearly told us that the VIP seating was not allocated and to sit at any if the tables marked reserved.
We subsequently sat at a table of 8 second from front alongside another middle aged couple.
At that point I noticed that there was no instruments on stage just a central mike! I do accept at this point your adverts didn't use the word band!
The venue which in itself was fit for purpose then started filling up. I became aware shortly after 9 of Stevies partner remonstrating with the couple we had sat beside. It seems they had a party of 10 they wanted to sit together and he was asking them(and presumably us) to move. The couple refused as we had come early for good seats.
The man came back and asked again and then Stevie came over and came between me and my lady and said we had to move as this table was for a family of ten who had booked online very early. I repeated to him what he had told me on entering and asked why the family name was not put on the reservation? I also said that I had booked my tickets online the day they went on sale. Your records will show that, but in any event we weren't moving! He the quite clearly then asked me and my lady to leave the venue, which I refused.
He wen away, never came back and there was much cramming in of people on tables.
There was clearly problems as both Stevie, his partner and a tall well dressed man were as such running around almost in a state if panic.
By now it was 1030 and no sign of a start, I approached the well dressed man who said he was the sound man!
Eventually a young local lady, not the advertised support came on and did 15 minutes of karaoke bless her.
At about 11 pm Kenny Thomas came on stage to a chorus of boos and performed a fragmented 45 minute set, frequently running to the wing if the stage, clearly not happy with the sound!
In short it was like aTenerife show bar!
The meet and greet that we paid extra for was a farce as all the people on the dance floor who were mainly non VIP gate crashed it and it was basically a free for all!
I should also say the money was being taken on the door and I would seriously question if the numbers were inside the legal limit!
So the whole event was a fiasco which will have done nothing for Kennys reputation.
Whilst accepting that soul'ed out should not adopt the pricing plans of Warren at Hoochie Coochie, I would seriously wonder how with over 300 in the venue, I counted them, why they didn't pay for the band option!
The moral of the story, stay with Hoochie Coochie in the town! FARCICAL! Oh I forgot to mention, sound man stormed out of the venue half way through the Kenny Thomas set!
