SUNDAY 30th MARCH 2025- THE BLACK PRINCE/NORTHAMPTON
VENUS FLY TRAP-electro post punk
“ Northampton’s VENUS FLY TRAP have extended their set for tonight’s gig. That’s no problem because VFT have eight studio albums with which to compile their set, but it’s a strange case of musical cannibalism that opens proceedings. ‘Control Addicts’ was originally a song by vocalist Alex Novak’s previous band Religious Overdose and was recently reworked for the Glass Records compilation. Like every song the band cover, it is remade in their own image and sets things up nicely as we head to VFT’s genesis for the highly addictive ‘Morphine’. The darkwave duo soon get the crowd swaying to ‘Vitesse’ with Alex hanging off his vintage microphone like a demented Jim Morrison and guitarist Andy Denton pulling mechanical riffs from his guitar. ‘Pressure Drop’ is cinematic in an Altered States or Eraserhead way before two covers close their set, first Suicide’s ‘Rocket USA’ then The Cramps’ ‘Human Fly’, both of which prove that there’s no one quite like Venus Fly Trap.”

+ATTRITION(COVENTRY)-dark electronic soundscapes
“Up next are veterans Attrition, legends who've single-handedly started several genres and have stayed true while many of their peers have jumped ship. The very epitome of cool Attrition take the audience on a sonic journey to the darkest recesses of the human psyche. With a sound that is genuinely unsettling the band deliver a master class in dark ambient electronica. What makes the band so intriguing is the tension of opposites, most notably Martin's understated whispers which seem to emerge from under a huge weight are juxtaposed with Julias almost operatic vocals. Martin works his Korg like a mad scientist and with some fine dark soundscapes it's obvious why the band have remained at the top of the game for over 30 years. Attrition are a real light in the dark.”
