Paul Taylor
A professional DJ since the mid 70’s, Paul has become an international club
legend with his internationally renowned brand Retro which he created in 1989.
Moving through the decades since then Paul has built up a reputation as the Dj who is passionate about his music - knowing exactly what the people want and getting the all-important dance floors busy.
His philosophy to keep close to his audience has been an unequivocal success.
Paul was the creator of the dance outfit Loveland in the early 90’s achieving
four top thirty hits in the nationals and dance music record of the year in 1994
with the seminal dance floor anthem "Let the music lift you up".
In 2010 Paul and his music Partner Mark Hadfield aka Rox & Taylor received huge critical acclaim for the remix of the Red Hot Chilli peppers track ‘ Other side’. Paul also ran Manchester's Eastern Bloc records during the 90s releasing over 30 tracks
to critical acclaim.
Having released numerous of his self-penned Retro CD compilation albums
throughout the 90s in the UK, Paul's Retro residency in Pacha Ibiza which
lasted 3 seasons from 2008 sparked the release of the first Pacha Classics
album which became a huge success on a worldwide scale and remains
historically one of the greatest House Music albums released on the Pacha
label.
Paul remains as passionate today as he was as a young lad playing soul, jazz
funk and Motown in his first residency at Angels in Burnley Lancashire way
back in those hazy days and nights of the 70s. Now in his 60s he remains
totally focused on just how important music is to everyone's lives.
Much has been written about this enigma of a man who developed from a teen DJ on the decks in Burnley to an internationally recognised icon.
“After 40 odd years I’m still here doing it because I love it – music is the celebration of my soul and that is going nowhere”.
Ben Taylor
Ben Taylor’s professional DJ career kicked off in the club scene way back in the late 90's. Bens versatility and understanding of house music in many delightful forms is crystal clear, and his ability to know what makes a dance floor tick has set him apart.
Performing at some of the best clubs across the globe; Tall Trees, Pacha, Sankeys, The Empire, Warehouse Project, Plug Shefield and Eden to name but a few, and supporting world class DJ’s such as The Shapeshifters, MYNC project, Tom Novy, Graham Park, Jeremy Healy, Alistair Whitehead and of course his father Paul Taylor, DJ Ben Taylor has certainly imprinted his name firmly on the clubbing scene.
Pete Monsoon
Yorkshire 'Pete Monsoon' followed his dream of becoming a DJ from the age of 10...a dream that would see him go onto perform around the world. Playing 7inch singles in his bedroom on a basic record deck with a built in speaker, it was when his neighbour gave him their record deck of the same make, he first started playing records over two decks.
After a couple of years of obsessing over DJ’ing, Breakdancing, Rapping & Graffiti (aged just 14), Pete upgraded his equipment to a system with turntables that cost £50 - which he paid for weekly, with his £5 pocket money. Soon after, Pete was trying to copy the scratching sounds and techniques he had heard, from records such as Herby Hancock’s ‘Rocket’, Arthur Bakers ‘Breakers Revenge’, and his home town legend ‘3 Jaze’ - who’s Mixtapes were a true inspiration to a young Pete.
Pete's first big break came when he was 17, in June 1990, when his friend set up his own Rave night in Huddersfield called Forbidden Zone @ Venn Street. He was added to the flyer under his Graffiti / Tag name at the time ‘Creator’ and played alongside DJ’s Paul Oakenfold, Paul Trouble Anderson, Chad Jackson and T.O.N.Y (from the Hacienda).
From this successful night, Pete went onto DJ all over the UK and around the world, as well as doing shows on local, pirate, legal and online radio stations.
An open-minded music lover and a versatile DJ, Pete has played a vast selection of musical styles in his career, from Trance, Techno, Funk, Hip Hop; to UK, Italian, Funky, Piano and Electro House.
Pete has been producing and remixing records since 1991, with labels such as Fulcrum, Hamster and FFRR records.
A lover of creating bootleg mash-ups with an Old Skool feel, Pete has gone on to remix releases for Ministry of Sound, Clubland, Data and All Around the World records to name a few.
Zac Greenwood
LOVED UP head honcho… in the words of DJ Butty founder and creator of oldskoolanthemz.com “2002 and a fresh faced 16 year old Zac Greenwood aka oldskoolkidder rocked up to
OSA asking if someone would stick an old skool event on near him. He ended up doing it himself and completely smashed it out the park”
18 years later and still going strong, Zac has a passion for oldskool and all things uplifting house, he started djing in 2005 and has gone on to play alongside the likes of Nipper, Welly, Stu Allan, Rob Tissera, Paul Taylor, Bowa, Waddicker, Absolute, K-Klass, XTC, Andy Pendle, Rob Thurston, Pete Monsoon, Barrie Jay, Simon Foresteiro, Ben Taylor, Butty & Recca, Ricky Isted and many more.
Maria Shenton
Maria is a young, uber talented next generation DJ hailing from just over the border in Calderdale. She is a frighteningly accomplished young DJ with exceptional taste and knowledge that exceeds her years. Maria has already played several gigs over in Calderdale most notably at the Golden Lion in Tod amongst others creating quite the “over yonder”.
Come and see what the fuss is about for yourself and help to support the next generation of local DJ talent.
