Review of The Confident Crow Comedy Club ONLINE
First event and the acts were amazing. I had tears of laughter and the set up and the way they interacted with those on the front line was really inclusive. I couldn't recommend it higher. Well done. Keep going. I've recommended you to my friends.

Review of Rum Tasting Online - Boxing Day - FINAL 8 HOURS TO BUY
Did this with a friend and was a much needed lift to my Christmas. Package was very generous - Only drunk half the rum and was absolutely walloped. Had enough for a few cheeky rums over new year as well. Was a lot of fun watching everyone get pissed together and jungle came in just as the boosters were firing - nice!

Review of Addiction and supporting recovery in the music industry
Great initiative! We just need more of it and with more guests. This helps to raise awareness and decrease the stigma that addictions and mental health in general still carries. You can count with me to help...as always.

Review of Addiction and supporting recovery in the music industry
i'm sorry to say that i really wasn't very encouraged by what i saw of this seminar at all (there always has to be one stick in the mud, right? looks like that's me this time).
please don't get me wrong: the impetus behind setting this event up, and to have the MU promote this, is not to be sniffed at. i remain massively grateful to ALL involved for putting effort & time into this, being open enough to share their own experiences and for the want to help others.
i'm the frontman of a band, i run an independent record label & i'm a filmmaker. these are my sole sources of income and have effectively not earnt since the first lockdown last year. i have considerable issues with alcohol & substance abuse alongside struggling with fairly extreme metal health issues & longstanding disorders / neural conditions, much of which i've been waiting just over 8 years for therapy to be provided on the NHS for.
insofar as the webinar was concerned, i was delighted to see faces i recognise and otherwise trust their input considerably, however i'm sorry to say that from quite early on in the evening there was a recurrent theme of self-contradiction from so many of those speaking.
this came across, for the sake of a comparison that will use generalisation, as "so a lot of people think X, Y or Z about the 12 step plan and it's really not that. well, it is but... it's not, but... it can really work if you find something that works for you in it"
in other words, there were plenty of acknowledgements that the source content of the 12 step plan has inconsistencies (even at one point openly admitting that areas of its literature are quite misogynistic and could badly warrant some re-working) and that there are crucial aspects to it that have historically and continue *to be* problematic for those approaching it, yet these aspects kept being played down as "but that's not what it's really about... i mean, it is... but it's not". please, PLEASE make up your mind which that is. it's *incredibly* frustrating AND distressing to have to face so many U-turns on principles that could otherwise be a solution for someone like me or, at the worst, even save someone's life.
while i appreciated that past use of the 12 step plan has worked for the panellists and that the "god thing" wasn't what it appeared to be at apparent face value, it must please be understood that for a person who borders on being a *militant* atheist (yes, i will bring 'historic child abuse' into the vocabulary of this complaint, for the purposes of validating such adverse points), ANY mention of spiritualism / quasi-spiritualism, gnostic themes or it's-ok-because-it's-what-you-make-of-it approaches to what will still require you to identify with *anything* that lies outside of empirical fact when it concerns my potential survival of life-threatening substance addiction will (no matter how bad that addiction is) make me run the proverbial mile, and very possibly via an off licence.
i will freely admit that, in leaving the webinar as i did while still in full swing, i may quite possibly have missed a vital turning point in the conversation where all is revealed and reliably non-spiritualistic science is presented as THE way to get through this and/or that you are in safe hands among people who know & see the 12 step plan for what it has so often revealed itself to be (ie. extremely questionable at its root principles, to say the least).
on my side however, i quit the event entertaining yet further feelings of being extremely isolated and with the overbearing sense that somehow my stigma towards any mention of spirituality / religion when in comes to any sort of involvement with what should be purely medical / psychiatric treatment might infact be the source of the problem and not my addictions to various substances themselves. i'm sure it's not too much of a leap of faith [sic] to point out that telling a person who teeters on the brink of wilful self destruction that the problem is really their outlook on one of the greater evils of the modern world is in itself inadvisable, to put it lightly.
i am not in the business of trying to 'cancel' anyone or anything that is there to help people. if so many of the webinar's attendants & presenters have found value in these systems, i applaud that alone. however, i do feel it's important that feedback be given on other insights on these systems and what they appear to offer / operate as.
all the best and, ultimately, thank you for the offer of help which is doubtless at the base impulse of all this.
