Dunkeld has a vast and interesting historical past. A Pictish Royal Seat, a place where St Columba’s relics were housed, the religious capital of Scotland for a time, the site of the 2nd battle of the first Jacobite uprising, home to the Yeomanry regiment of the Scottish Horse, visited by Queen Victoria on many occasions, plus other famous visitors such as Rabbie Burns, Beatrix Potter and Millais to name but a few. Rioting, witchcraft, folklore, our small village has seen it all. Stanley Hill park will be open to the public from 10am to 5pm daily throughout the weekend (Sat & Sun only) Come and experience the Battle of Dunkeld, the 2nd fight of the Jacobite uprising in 1689, with Sir Arthur Erkskine’s Regiment at their impressive camp, with stories of the battle and displays of Pike, Musket and Canon. Hear about the uniforms, weaponry, equipment, training and everyday tasks of the Boer, Great War and Second World War soldiers, Local Defence Volunteers & Canadian Forestry Corps. Learn about the weapons and dress of a 12th/13th Century Knight and hear about the link with “The House of Dunkeld”. Be entertained by our Jesters with juggling, tricks, stocks and knife throwing. Other stands include the National Trust, Caricature Artist, Pipe Band and much more.
