Join us this December, as the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra are bringing a variety of festive concerts to the Lighthouse in Poole.
On the 11th of December, we are back with the ever-popular Handels Messiah. Since 1742, The Messiah has secured itself in the Christmas calendar. Retelling the story of Christ, it is heaped full of beautiful arias including He was Despised and Rejected and I Know that My Redeemer Liveth and rousing choruses like For Unto Us a Child is Born and the ever-popular Hallelujah Chorus.
Cherished by children and adults alike, The Snowman is the soundtrack to everyone’s Christmas. We’re walking in the air...join the Snowman and James on their magical journey through the winter sky in this special showing of the festive classic on the large screen, accompanied by the BSO, on Saturday 14 December. Guaranteed to send tingles down your spine as you relive this enchanted animated film together with a live orchestral performance of Howard Blake’s iconic score. And as a special bonus to herald the coming of the holiday season, the Orchestra is joined by BSO Voices for a selection of Christmas classics, including Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer, The 12 Days of Christmas and Jingle Bells, as well as an exciting selection of Disney songs from Beauty and the Beast and Frozen. The afternoon performance at 3pm is a family friendly relaxed performance, whilst the 7:30pm evening concert celebrates the coming of the holiday season with an extended second half featuring a few more festive favourites.
Christmas just isn’t Christmas without the BSO’s Last Night of the Christmas Proms concert! This year, on Saturday 21 December, we are thrilled to welcome the talents of pianist and singer extraordinaire, Joe Stilgoe, who will be showcasing his musical talents with a hamper full of Christmas musical goodies alongside all your favourite orchestral treats. Joe works regularly with orchestra across the UK and can be heard extensively on radio, having hosted and starred many times in BBC Radio 2’s Friday Night is Music Night, while also being a regular presence on the station.
Experience the warmth and joy of Christmas with a concert devoted to the best traditional carols ever written. On Monday 23 December, join in the singing with the Bournemouth Symphony Chorus and Youth Chorus. Favourites include O Come All Ye Faithful, Good King Wenceslas, O Little Town of Bethlehem, The First Nowell, God Rest You Merry Gentlemen and Hark the Herald Angels Sing. With a selection of Christmas music the evening is the perfect way to start the Christmas holiday in the company of family and friends, with a good-old sing-along.
The swirling majesty and joyous sounds of the traditional Viennese Gala will see you spinning into the New Year with a flourish! Join us on New Year’s Day; this year’s sparkling concert brings you all of your favourite waltzes, polkas and marches by Johann Strauss and his contemporaries. Music includes the Fledermaus Overture, Thunder and Lightning Polka, The Emperor Waltz, Radetzsky March, Gold and Silver Waltz and, of course, The Blue Danube!
