Dinner with Dickens
DINNER WITH DICKENS
Join us at historic Samlesbury Hall, where solo performer David Bramwell-Norris ‘becomes’ Charles Dickens to present two 40-minute live story readings, along with a two course supper in a very special theatre and dining event.
Charles Dickens stayed overnight at Samlesbury Hall in 1867, and it has been suggested that perhaps the manor house provided him with inspiration for his stories…
Guests should arrive between 6.00pm and 6.30pm, our bar will be open. A hot supper of cottage pie with peas and gravy will be served, followed later by strawberry fool in the show interval - both of these courses date from the 18th century and would likely have been enjoyed by Mr Dickens! The performance will take place in The Long Gallery, which is upstairs, and supper will be served in The Great Hall.
David Bramwell-Norris is a performer and postdoctoral researcher specialising in sensory performance and curated fantastical encounters. Dinner with Dickens will present two stories including ‘To Be Read at Dusk’ – in which a gathering outside a convent in the Swiss Alps turns to talk of ghosts and a woman obsessed with a mysterious face. Followed by ‘The Seven Poor Travellers’ in which six needy travellers may take refuge in a hostel with food and entertainment.
