2025 marks the 20th Anniversary of HED promoting shows in the Preston area. To kick the year off in style he has put together a trio of local acts at The Continental for Independent Venue Week featuring Hauspoints, Elohymn and The Jackpot Golden Boys. It should be a hoot!
HAUSPOINTSHauspoints make their first appearance at The Conti since their after a stunning debut here in 2023.
Hauspoints’ songs explore a distinctly northern viewpoint on modernity. They are like a love letter to popular culture that finds beauty in the mundane and celebrates the quirkiness of human existence. Some people say they sound like the Fall, which is fine by the band, but the members themselves hear the likes of NEU!, Squid and Roxy Music in the mix. Steven Hodson plays analogue and digital percussion, Nik Brierly plays synthesisers and digital percussion, Sam Almond sings and plays guitar, Rob Clarke plays guitar and sings, Sam Beaton plays saxophone, melodica and synthesisers.
ELOHYMNElohymn roared back onto the local scene last month after a long hiatus. Underneath the technical riffs and beats are robot noises and subliminal sonic subtexts. Charging this attack are subtle but essential effects, that shift the pitch and cause sequenced delays, all of which enhances an already spectacularly grand sound.
The flipside sound reveals a blossoming anthemic and ethereal 21st Century post rock outlook, that’s captured in the cascading themes, loops and eloquent guitar lines. Elohymn don't have to rely on big chords. Instead they can snap out quick multibeat passages, punctuated with millisecond pauses which lead into the next ascending or descent led theme. The trio create something of a conceptual set, with the backing tracks and consistent, connecting strands. The numbers of course become gigantic by the end, elevating the audience on something of a sonic mountain climb - with such altitude, comes the very best of views".
THE JACKPOT GOLDEN BOYSThe Jackpot Golden Boys are infectious, uplifting and bursting with melodies and have been a much loved local act for many years. They have previously undertaken large scale tours of USA & Europe supporting Epic Rap Battles Of History.
Doors open at 7pm. Saturday 1st February. The Continental, Preston.
