Review of Ultra Con

After the previous year, we were really looking forward to this event. The cost was low and the proposed displays were intriguing. However, the event itself was disappointing from start to a very early, if prolonged, finish. Firstly, the venue was not suitable for the attendance numbers. There were SERIOUS parking issues, that were not, despite what was said, addressed. People were parked a long way from the venue, in dangerous places. Secondly, inside the venue was extremely cramped. The Corridors of Doom, was where we spent most of our time queuing from one room to the next. Whilst the first room, Hero cave, had some good items, it was too dark, cramped and poorly laid out to make the most of the displays. The main room was even worse, despite an impressive AT:AT as you entered, the remainder of the displays were poor. It had been reduced to mostly stalls and the cars, which were supposed to be the stars, were shoved off to virtually impossible to reach locations and corners. Why were they not in the middle? However, the worst disappointment was the Parade. The stage was extremely badly positioned, crowds at least 10 deep. The stage was too low, and they didn't make the use of the screen, which could have projected what was happening instead of redundant graphics. Children had no hope of watching, unless superhero parents could support their weight throughout the over an hour show. Whilst the show ended well, it seemed more of a few people coming out waving cosplay guns around and walking off. Where was the singing and dancing routines of last year? They appear to have been marginalised, as did the cars. Finally, as we left after only three hours (30 minutes was spent outside having a picnic and a break from queues and the crush), as did many attendees, reflected in the massive queue to leaving all at the same time. Whilst some of this can be put down to broken traffic lights, the rest was down to NO stewarding, people wanting to leave an event that should have been a fun filled day out and putting an event on in a venue that was not up to the task. So overall, whilst the Cosplayers were fantastic, great to see Spencer Hastings, it was a real let down. If it stays at the same venue, it will drastically put of future pre-sales. They really need to consider larger showgrounds and focus on their main attractions, the cars and the stars!

Totally enjoyed this convention. The cars and the stars were awesome. We had a great day. We saw some great costumes. I will sure go again. Thank you to the guys that organised this event. :-)

Was ok definitely hyped up too much, no parking which caused havoc due to scheduled road works and charity bike ride happening on same day.
Couldn't see stalls propably due to overcrowding so left empty handed and stage was to low down so kids couldn't see their favourite characters on stage was disappointed

My day at Ultra Con, an excellent day, though due to the popular parades, it was crowded, felt sorry for the children and people in wheel chairs unable to view. My I suggest these people have priority of seating in the front.

Arrived on sunday with my daughter, and a couple of friends one who is in a wheelchair, car park was full but with no restrictions on the main road, was able to park fine, and walk back to the actual event only took a about 5 mins, sets were great, friendly people, only problem we had was the stage, unfortunately for disabled and short people like the group i was with, it was impossible to see anything happening on stage, over head was a big screen, it would be great if this can be used next time, as then everyone could still see what was happening... Apart from that, great day had :-)

Couldn't see the parade as stage was way too small, couldn't get near the cars near the stage as we couldn't get through crowds, no where to sit down with rude staff around stars such as Doctor Who stars, little space around the stalls either meaning you was crushed or couldn't get near them. No free photos either you pay to sit on Batman cars and have to take the photos yourself compared to others where the photo is taken professionally for you. My sister (16, no normal issues at any other comic cons) had a panic attack from getting too hot and being in a tight area where she felt trap but couldn't find medical staff to help her.

On the plus side, many great cosplayers and the hero cave was great too, Iron Throne from Games Of Thrones owner let us all sit down on the chair for £2.00 for all of us (3 of us) so was a bit of a bargain.

Well, we were really looking forward to this from the experience we had 2 years ago at Escape Castleford. Ended up being a bit of a let down tbh! Parking was a nightmare and dont get me started on leaving which we did at 12.15 though didnt get to the roundabout until 13.40 which is less than a quarter of a mile away!! Not many cars at all on display, the guys that turned up were great, unfortunately you felt like cattle trying to walk around. Spencer Wilding was great and made time to chat as well as Kenny Baker, the stalls were in the wrong area and some of the organisers seemed to know what they were doing and others didnt! A let down Im afraid!!

Absolutely amazing, we enjoyed every minute. the stage shows were awesome and the good thing for us is that the players mingled after and had photos taken with the kids. my daughter had a great day and we would definitely go again. please do another one next year at the Magna a lot of my friends were gutted they missed it.

The stall area, aisles to small. If you took out the transformers area, could spread out the stalls more. Noticed people with small children, pushchairs and wheelchaor users difficult to move around. The parade was great and it was good to have 2 showings, but the viewing area was to small and you could only see if you were right at the front. Stage needs to be raised or viewing area needs to be a decline or platformed seats

Although I had a bad experience at YCC7, the managers certainly acted on their promise to improve things and YCC8 was absolutely amazing. I had a lot of fun and the atmosphere was incredibly friendly, which I liked as I attended alone. The stalls were great too with an excellent variety of items from many sellers. Not to mention the acts on stage were interesting. I would definitely attend YCC9 if it happens
