DC Presents: Other Half / Irked / Harlot
3/10/24
Very pleased to be welcoming Other Half back to Clam and bringing one of our new favourite bands Irked along for the ride as well! Harlot joins the bill too!
OTHER HALF
Other Half are a trio from Norwich that toes the line between post-punk and post-hardcore, twinning enthralling guitars with percussive and forthright vocals. Think Pixies meets Fugazi meets Les Savy Fav, tumbled in the dark stew of 21st-century malaise. Releases on Big Scary Monsters Records, they blew our socks off last time at Clam supporting Hotline TNT.
IRKED
Straight outta the North East, Irked have just released a killer EP on the labels choice of labels, Wrong Speed Records and we can't wait to have them down. With that in mind, who better to describe them than WSR themselves:
"They channel all the killer modern garage punk sounds from G.L.O.S.S to Downtown Boys, from Uranium Club to Pissed Jeans. This is their debut release. It was initially planned as a five track 7". It is now a one sided 12", full size sleeve, full size sound, drop needle, destroy room for 13 minutes, no halftime break.
We saw them in Salford. Hey Colossus played with them. It was wild. All six of the HC band stood and watched thinking "we're gonna need to bring it tonight". It was so refreshing to see. It was done with humour and a hammer. It was political and urgent. It reminded us of Eddie Current Suppression Ring, Stiff Richards, and Flower (check this band, on Profane Existence). We came away, having spoken with them, thinking: 'we gotta do their record on Wrong Speed'.
We are one of the least "giving a shit about the music industry" labels going but here's some spiel you may appreciate if you're a Music Week reader. Or whatever. They're already named as BBC Introducing Ones to watch for 2024 with plays on BBC Radio 1, Amazing Radio and 6 Music. They've already played shows with Big Joanie, Benefits, and the best band from the UK, Part Chimp. They've already got more planned we can't mention."
