Live: Laugh, Love brings post-valentines joy to Delicious Clam with...
MUSIC CITY + TV CRIME + FIRST PRIZE
Very excited to be welcoming MUSIC CITY to Clam, after almost 6 years of constant rotation on our collective record/music players and a false-start for the Christmas show.
MUSIC CITY is the project of Irish musician Conor Lumsden. You may know him from his work in legendary power pop band The Number Ones, who you may have seen over their visits to Sheffield over the years. You may know him from other work as a gun-for-hire with A. Savage (Parquet Courts), Jack Cooper (Mazes/Ultimate Painting) or Paul Collins (The Nerves/The Beat).
Inspired by the pop classicism of Big Star, the heart-on-the-sleeve rawness of The Replacements and the glitter of T-Rex, back in 2018 Lumsden set out to record a two song 7”. Recorded in Dublin by Daniel Fox (Girl Band). Lumsden piled together all his musical abilities to follow in the footsteps of musical hero Todd Rundgren and layed down the drums, bass, guitars and vocals himself.
With plenty of talented people around, Lumsden enlisted additional help from Fox, who shook on the tambourine and strummed acoustic guitars, Conor O’Brien (Villagers) laid down some rock’n’roll piano and Leigh Arthur (Sissy, Extravision, Grazia) and Ailbhe Níc Oireachtaigh (The Cosmos) added backing vocals. It was mixed and mastered to tape down under by Australian Indie sound guru Mikey Young (Total Control, UV Race).
The result, a 2 song 7” on Static Shock Records, is power-pop perfection. Praised by Iggy Pop and Pitchfork, Lumsden has been writing and recording his debut album across Dublin, New York, and London. Joined by a plethora of the finest rocker’s the world over, including Pete O’Hanlon and Evan Walsh from The Strypes, Tina Halliday and Hart Seeley from Sheer Mag, and Alastair McKay from Dick Diver and recorded by the aforementioned Fox, clam fave Jonah Falco of Fucked Up, and Matt Jaggar at Konk Studios. We will surely hear some blasts of said album this February.
Support comes from Nottingham's TV CRIME - similarly to Music City, their first 7" absolutely ripped and blew us all away...8 years ago?!! WHAT?! Can't wait to have them back at Clam.
We also have Sheffield jangle-pop Bingo Records upstarts First Prize, very excited for them.
