Vapour Rave

INTERWORLD MEDIA are back once again, and they’ve got work to do. A large sphere made entirely of vapour and fifth-generation video-game textures has travelled from the future to warn us about the dangers of nostalgia. “Things weren’t as good as you remember them!”, it cries out. “You must abandon the past if you wish to create the future!”

In honour of this noble gas giant and its breathy words of wisdom, we are hosting a Vapour Rave: a night of live electronics, audiovisual performances and DJ sets from the most potent purveyors in Sheffield and the surrounding sectors. It will be held at the glorious Gut Level in conjunction with Studio Monkey Shoulder, on Friday 23 August.

🌩️ PRINCESS ELF BAR

A member of collectives Booty Shakin Bestiez, pr1ncess 1sland and many more, Leeds vapour royalty Princess Elf Bar consistently makes waves with banging sets of ambient trance and hyperpop bangers. She will be gracing us with her presence via Northern Rail to bless us with a veritable feast of vaped-out anthems and experimental delights. Expect a multitude of euphoric flavours and textures like no other.

🌩️ LIZARD QUEST

The scaly troupe will be emerging from the depths of the Lizard’s Lair to attempt to make direct contact with the sphere. Expect blissed-out slowed-down slabs of ambience, chaotic visual zip-zapping, and maybe even something resembling dance music. For fans of unlocking core memories and replacing them with new, better ones.

🌩️ TYGER BLUE

Birmingham-based Tyger Blue is rapidly building a reputation for live-coded performances fusing ambient and IDM with bass-oriented music. Through experimental software including Tidal Cycles and VCV Rack, he explores how algorithms and computational methods can be used to forge new pathways to create sonic experiences and bring the heat.

🌩️ CRYSTAL BLAZE

Sheffield-based hardware wizard Crystal Blaze weaves silky, colourful soundscapes using an array of synths and samplers. Expect hypnagogic melodies and virtual instruments flowing through lively beats from another realm.

🌩️DJ BLUE RASPBERRY

Sheffield-based DJ Blue Raspberry will bring hyped-up pop bangers and tastefully (?) sped-up anthems way past her bedtime and for as long as she feels like it.

🌩️ MOONSLEEP

Goth electronic music producer Moonsleep (head of LMNL Records) will be performing a DJ set combining darkwave, dreampunk and industrial music with her own vocals.

🌩️ STRAWBERRY SALIVA

Sheffield-based duo formerly unknown as wetcatsmell will be creating music a fairy might dream about through trackers, samplers and synths - culminating in a “soundtrack to an apocalypse nobody cares about”.
