Llanfyllin Dolydd Workhouse venue information
Historic Workhouse, built 1839, to a classic design which remains largely in its original form. The building is owned by the Llanfyllin Dolydd Building Preservation Trust. The Trust’s objective is to restore this valued historic building as a Community Enterprise for Arts, Education, Environment and Heritage.
The areas open to the public allow a self-guided tour of the building. These comprise the venue (former dining room) for functions, a gallery for exhibitions, a cafe and a book room offering used books for sale. In addition there are numerous workshops and studios hosting activities within the remit of the Trust including sound recording suite, artists’ studios and leather workshop.
Full advantage is taken of the extensive grounds hosting everything from music festivals to horse shows. The grounds also support periodic residential courses on such diverse environmental topics such as yurt building and pond dipping! The memorial garden, dedicated to those who made the workhouse their home, is in process of restoration. There is a fully equipped bunkhouse, sleeping 24, available for visitors.
