Since 2015, Dickens Theatre Company has been creating exciting stage adaptations of literary classics. Our magical and accessible performances breathe life into the stories, words and characters studied by thousands of students in classrooms across the UK. Our shows bring these stories off the page and onto the stage, giving our audiences the opportunity to really understand and enjoy these classic works. And this February we at DTC are delighted to be bringing Revision on Tour to our home town and the beautiful Palace Theatre, Westcliff on the back of our A Christmas Carol tour last December.
From Year 6 pupils studying Macbeth as their first taste of Shakespeare, to Year 11s cramming all those key English Lit GCSE exam quotes, for many young people, watching a DTC show will be their first taste of live theatre.
Our 6-actor adaptation of Macbeth is both accessible and engaging, with all the original key themes, speeches and characters - but with the added bonus of our Porter narrating in modern verse throughout. At just 85 min + interval, our version of Macbeth provides young people with the perfect introduction to enjoying and understanding Shakespeare performed live on stage, whilst also helping to embed those key exam quotes.
Our highly acclaimed production of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde stays completely true to the original text, but with the addition of Robert Louis Stevenson himself as narrator to guide the audience through this complex tale of duality. One of our most heard post show comments has to be, "Now I get it!!"
But DTC productions are not just for revision! Theatre goers of all ages will enjoy these engaging and powerful adaptations.
Special DISCOUNTED RATES for schools at just £15 per student plus FREE post-show Q&A sessions after our matinees, these are "must-see" productions for all young people studying the GCSE texts. The show runs in Southend for just 3 days, with Macbeth on Mon 10th and Tues 11th Feb at both 1pm and 7.30pm - and then Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde on Wednesday 12th Feb at 1pm and 7.30pm.
