The Stockport Music Story in conversation with Dee Christopholus

About

We'd love you to join us for our first Stockport Music Story 'In Conversation With' event at Stockport Museum.
We are delighted to be joined by the legendary frontman Dee Christopholus of the iconic band Wimple Winch. The band released two singles 'Rumble on Mersey Square South' and 'Save My Soul' that have achieved cult status, being sampled on a global hit record and credited as having started the musical genre 'Freakbeat'.
Not only is Dee able to talk in great depth about his experiences in Wimple Winch, supporting Jimi Hendrix at The Sinking Ship club but he has a rich career in the music industry to draw upon.
Dee started out as Dee Fenton and The Silhouettes playing his home turf in Liverpool and appearing on the same bill as The Beatles at The Cavern club on numerous occasions.
To keep up with the burgeoning music scene in the city, the band changed their name to The Four Just Men and played their first gig at The Cavern on 22nd August 1962 with Gerry and the Pacemakers and The Beatles who were being filmed by Granada TV.
With so many gigs lined up, the band turned professional and moved to Manchester signing to Kennedy Street Enterprises and changing their name again to Just Four Men releasing two singles and appearing on the same bill as Del Shannon, Herman's Hermits and Wayne Fontana and The Mindbenders.
In 1966, Wimple Winch was born and with Dee's songwriting at its peak, the band started to make music that made the world sit up and listen. Their residence at The Sinking Ship club dramatically changed their fortunes as the club burned down in April 1967 leading to the band's demise.
We hope you can join us to hear Dee's amazing recollections about his life before and after Wimple Winch and listen to the music that has achieved cult status.
There will be a break for tea and coffee and you are also welcome to spend time in the Museum to visit the Strawberry Studios exhibition and other attractions.
We are grateful for the support of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund for making these possible.#ukspf
