he Railway Inn is Winchester’s only Music Venue. Its also the only really alternative pub, featuring comedy nights, poetry nights, regular film screenings and youth projects. We have two venues, plus a bar that’s open every day, and one of the largest covered gardens in Winchester.
We have no music policy. If someone wants to come and see it, we’ll book it. We are home to Winchester Folk Club, Scoundrels Comedy Club, Ancient & Modern, Poetry Platform, The Late Train Comedy Club, and many more regular nights.
The Railway Inn was built in 1850 but it’s still not finished. In recent years, it has established a national reputation as one of the UK’s premier regional live music venues.

How to find us
By Train/Bus – The Railway Inn is situated just a short walk from Winchester rail station (well it must have got the name somehow…), offering easy links to London, Southampton, Portsmouth, Bournemouth, Basingstoke and pretty much everywhere else. Just head out of the station on the London bound side, head across the car park, and you can’t miss us. There are also regular bus’s from the station, offering a direct connection to Winchester Bus Station.
By Foot – From Winchester High Street, head up the hill, past the Westgate, and take a right at the roundabout (to the right of the Westgate hotel), carry on up and across the bridge on your left, then take a right down the hill and we’re just on the left.
By Car – From Jct 11 of the M3, follow the signs for City center and St Cross, This should take you down a long road with a church on your right, follow this until you come to traffic lights and a T-Junction in the city center. Turn left here, then at the roundabout take the second exit (right), then there should be a small bridge on your left. Go over this then right at the next roundabout. We’re just down the hill on the left.
Whilst The Railway Inn has a car park, this is reserved for Bands/Artists except on nights when there are no shows. A lot of the surrounding streets are free to park on after 6pm and all day Sunday.
