About

Get ready to dive into the vibrant tapestry of black history right in the heart of the City of London! Join us throughout October for the Black History Month Special: City of London Black History Quest.
This isn't your typical history lesson - it's a lively adventure where you'll unravel the hidden stories of black history through clues, riddles, and puzzles. Starting at the charming St Mary Aldermanbury Garden, you'll embark on a quest to uncover tales of the first black residents of the City of London, how enslavement started and who was involved, and the courageous abolitionists who fought for justice. Your journey will culminate at The Guilt of Cane monument, where we'll reflect on the past and celebrate the promise of a brighter future.
Gather your friends and family or join a team on the day, and race against the clock to piece together a secret password. The first team to crack the code wins a prize, so bring your A-game and a sense of adventure! PS - there's a special category for the over 60s or people with mobility challenges.
How does it work?
  1. Meet our hosts at St Mary Aldermanbury Garden.
  2. We will register your team and provide you with a quest sheet.
  3. You can participate as an individual, work together with friends and family in a group or be assigned to a team on the day.
  4. Your mission? To uncover the hidden black history in the City of London. Collect clues at each location that will help you build a secret password.
  5. You will have 90 minutes to complete the quest.
  6. The final stop is The Guilt of Cane.
  7. Meet your hosts and prizegiving.
