Review of Art Themen - Riverside Arts Jazz

Not much to say about this. Art Themen is a legend on the UK jazz scene, still going strong in his mid-80s and I have seen him live many times. Never fails to impress, but it was great to see him on this occasion in the company of another legend in Bobby Worth on the drum kit, plus our own legend T. Collie Esq on superb form. drawing appreciative noises from Art on more than one occasion. Not only this but there was the further bonus of the lovely Marianne Windham and her subtle and stylish support on double bass. Great choice of material too, including such classics as Bluesette (Toots Thielemans), Soul Eyes (Mal Waldron), Hanky Panky (Dexter G.), Lush Life (Coltrane and many others) and Sandhu (Clifford Brown). Great crowd-pleasing opener in Herbie H's Driftin', which is a favourite of mine. A highly enjoyable evening all round and thoroughly recommended to anyone who is not familiar with Mood Indigo Events high quality programme.

      Riverside Arts Centre venue information

The Riverside Arts Centre (RAC) provides a well equipped venue for the visual and performing arts as well as being a co-ordinating body for individuals and amateur and professional groups to promote such activities in its premises. It is run in its entirety by voluntary effort. Its main source of income is rental fees for the use of its facilities.

RAC is owned by Spelthorne Borough Council and is leased to The Riverside Arts Centre Ltd. The Studio - formerly the village branch of Barclays Bank - is owned by The Trustees. RAC was opened in April 1982 after 5 years toil converting a near derelict building into a viable theatre space. The Studio was purchased in 2003 and opened in November 2006.
