"...the way they switch between playing the kind of ballad that wouldn't sound out of place at midnight on the Pyramid Stage ('So Long St Christopher') and a garage belter like forthcoming single 'Oh Really' suggests this is a band with the whole world ahead of them." - NME
BREAKING NEWS: Goldheart Assembly have been added to the line-up of both Glastonbury and Hard Rock Calling. Saturday, 27th June will see them perform on the BBC Introducing Stage, followed on Sunday 28th June at 3:00pm they will take to the Third Stage in Hyde Park at Hard Rock Calling.
Although only a few months old, London-based sextet Goldheart Assembly’s way with a well-crafted folk-pop melody has been grabbing attention everywhere: Steve Lamacq made them the first unsigned band to play a session on his Radio One show in years as well as gifting them a headline slot at the Camden Crawl’s BBC 6music stage, NME gave the group a full-page feature despite them not having any records out and XYZ Magazine gave the band their first front cover in their June 2009 edition.
Singers James Dale and John Herbert met whilst working as zookeepers at Whipsnade Zoo. Bonding over a shared love of Tom Waits, cheap red wine and The Band’s Last Waltz film, James and John resolved to split their separate bands and join forces. Allying their two tendencies, James and John recruited the rest of Goldheart (drummer Nicky Francis, keyboardist Jake Bowser and guitarists Dominic Keshavarz and Tom Hastings), mostly for their ability to sing Beach Boys-style harmonies.
The harmonies may be pristine and the tunes may be massive, but the recording budget certainly isn’t: the single was recorded partly in an old unused youth centre and partly in a steam train museum in Norfolk, where they’ve arrayed a range of vintage recording gear in among trains.
The fruits of these sessions resulted in this, the band’s first single OUT TODAY!
