Preview: Sankeys in Ibiza

It was a sad day for lovers of underground music when we learnt of the intended closure of Sankeys.

Surely one of the most loved and downright influential clubs in the north west; a hotbed of the latest talent and cutting edge music progressions, and home to some of the biggest DJs to have ever been. However, we are reminded that Sankeys spokesman David Vincent cited the following reason for the closure of Manchesters favourite venue:

"I have decided to close Sankeys in Manchester indefinitely this summer as I focus my attention on our third year in Ibiza. I want our Ibiza project to be the best club in the world, just like what we have achieved previously in Manchester, as I get the feeling this could be our summer.”

With all focus now firmly on the party capital of the world, it is with great excitement that we now have an outline of who is playing and when, as Sankeys proves that it will stay at the forefront of the clubbing experience, regardless of geographical location.

These are some of the highlights so far:

Hypercolour

Monday will be run by the incredible Hypercolour imprint. Winner of last years Best Label gong by DJ Mag, and strong contenders again this year, the label has seen the likes of George Fitzgerald, Maya Jane Coles, and Eats Everything getting involved. Expect a night of the finest house and techno curated by one of the hottest labels at the moment.

Diynamic Neon Nights

Tuesday nights will introduce Diynamic Neon Nights to the Sankeys massive. Solomun’s venture was one of the highlights of last years clubbing calendar, with its impeccable taste, debauched party vibe and cutting edge music policy. This year we can expect the likes of H.O.S.H, David August, Stimming, Kollektiv Turmstrasse, UNER, Adriatique, DJ Phono, Karmon and many more. Expect more great things this year.

Fuse

Wednesdays will see a welcome return to Fuse. The London based clubbing mainstay have created something of a unique reputation for their simple, effective, no nonsense approach to clubbing. Featuring extended sets by their ever impressive residents, the focus is on outstanding song selection, and an incredible sound system, which never fails to deliver. This years residents will be Enzo Siragusa and Seb Zito, and with a whole host of friends and world class DJs lined up, Fuse at Sankeys is setting up to be one of the must visit events of the Ibiza week.

Dirtybird

Thursdays will be hosted by none other than Dirtybird. With such stars as Claude VonStroke, Justin Martin, Eats Everything and Catz ‘n’ Dogz, Dirtybird has been one of the most consistently awesome record labels over the past few years. Their an exciting techno and house selection that is always forward thinking, and yet firmly aimed at having a good time. With label boss VonStroke planning big things with his imprints first residency on the White Isle, we can hardly wait to see what he has in store for us.

Flying Circus

Fridays will be held by Flying Circus. The Miami born club night was created 6 years ago with the aim simply to throw one hell of a party to their immediate friends. Nowadays it has grown into something quite spectacular, with this years residency at Sankeys featuring guests as legendary as Carl Craig, Matthew Johnson, Tiefschwarz, Pole Folder, Hot Since 82 and Martin Buttrich.

Carnival

Saturday will see the arrival of Carnival. Surely now Sankey Ibizas proudest achievement to date, the reputation for the night has grown massively over the years, and with good reason. Sankeys will work with promoters and labels such as Bugged Out!, Tenax Italy, Outcross Records, and Culprit USA to name a few. We can expect to see performances by DJ Sneak, Miguel Campbell, Finnebassen, Duke Dumont, Anja Schneider, Todd Terry, Skream, Cajmere and South London Ordnance to name but a few.

VIVa Warriors

Sunday welcomes back VIVa Warriors. After an incredible maiden season last year, and a slew of sell out performances across the globe last year, Sundays at Sankeys will showcase the talents of the likes of Steve Lawler, Darius Syrossian, Detlef, Julian Perez, The Departure Furies as well as guests including: Steve Bug, Guti, Robert Dietz and Livio & Roby to name just a few. Tickets for VIVa’s new Sunday show are quickly selling already, as anticipation and excitement grows for more nights of face paints, feathers, love headbands, and amazing music in true Ibiza style.
