Starting life some 8 years ago, to a small but intimate crowd of 400 people, Sounds from the Other City has grown into something truly remarkable, with last year seeing 2000 in attendance. May the 5th sees the 9th installment of Sounds From The Other City descend on various quirky and exciting venues around Manchester.

Staying true to Manchester’s rich musical heritage, SFTOC has continued to cement its reputation as THE place to discover some of the hottest new acts and next big things in the world of music.

Featuring a wide range of musical genres including new alternative, indie, rock, bass, leftfield dance, freak folk, performance art and noise art, and with a massive 60 acts lined up over 11 awe-inspiring spaces up and down Salford’s historic Chapel Street, this years SFTOC is looking to be the best edition yet.

Some of the main contenders to look forward out for include the likes of recent Guardian Guide cover boy Deptford Goth, Liverpool’s folk-singing trio Stealing Sheep, the founder of Warp Records Robert Gordon, the pulverising sounds of Divorce, Radio 1xtra’s go to guy DJ Q, Ninja Tune’s Los Angeles based provocateur Daedelus, local funk heros Fingathing, and ex Lambchop star William Tyler. Up and coming stars will include Rozi Plain, Ofei, Gnod, Bipolar Sunshine, and Deft. The list really is endless, and is guaranteed to leave you totally spoilt for choice.

Featuring venues hidden in unique locations from deep in the heart of Manchester, such as pubs like The Kings Arms, The Crescent and The Rover Return, to bigger more well known haunts like Islington Mill and St Philip's Church, SFTOC is a back to basics event, that despite its ever growing numbers, remains firmly about exciting new music and unearthing new talent.

Previous discoveries at SOFTC have been the likes of recent Mercury Award winners Alt-J, Wire magazine's artist of the year (2009) James Ferraro, and the Ting Tings. The festival is curated by some of the most impressive and reliably on point promoters in the business such as Now Wave (responsible for introducing us to The XX, Everything Everything and Alt-J), alt-rock specialists Fat Out Till You Pass Out (Boris, Wolves in the Throne Room, Swans), award-winning folk and alternative expert, Hey Manchester (Jens Lekman, The Handsome Family, Fucked Up) and Future Everything associates Faktion (Andy Stott, Cut Hands, Raime, Demdike Stare).

With a winning combination of everything from pavement shows to live shows and DJ sets, all combined with groundbreaking visuals and a stunning lineup, you won’t be anything but be mesmerised by what this years SFTOC offers.
