Turn on the radio this year and you won't have been able to avoid Sigma's Number One D&B anthem this summer 'Nobody to Love' (below).
Taking one of the few soulful moments from Kanye West's uncompromising 2013 album Yeezus, the snatch of vocal from Charlie Wilson used on the overblown ballad 'Bound 2', the duo fashioned it into a high octane smash that has been one of the most euphoric tracks of 2014 so far.
It built on the duo's previous work, collaborating with the likes of Redman and Adam F and becoming one drum and bass' most reliable bastions, with support for DJ Fresh and Rusko for their respective tours proving their ability to tough it out in the live arena as well.
This summer they'll hit a cluster of festivals, including Electric Daisy Carnival, GlobalGathering, Leeds & Reading and many more, but before that they'll take centre stage at Ministry of Sound on Saturday 21st June, topping bass heavy line up that also includes Krafty Kuts and Delta Heavy.
We caught up with them prior to the show, to find out about their summer ahead,
if ther Kanye work led to an invitation to that wedding.
So your Kanye rework is doing rather well! Did you have a feeling it would turn into the monster record it has become?
We had no idea. We loved the hook and thought it could be end up being big, we just wasn't quite ready for the international hit that it has turned into!
Are you big fans of the original and the album that it came from, Yeezus?
We are fans of Kanye's early work. The hook we sampled was our favourite part of the Yeezus album, hence why we decided to base a track around it.
Do you guys have a relationship with Kanye at all, a surprise invitation to the wedding?
Ha, would love to but not really on first names terms to be honest!
You've both been in the game for some time now. How do you think your sound has evolved since you first started out?
This is a question that often comes up, and funnily enough our sound hasn't massively adapted at all. If you listen to our early tracks you will hear there has always been an element of musicality that sometimes is overlooked when people speak about drum and bass.
The success we have had recently hasn't been due to a change in style or sound, simply the backing we have received from the label, and the timing of the releases. These seem to be the essential aspects of mainstream success.
You've enjoyed a run of hugely well received remixes in your career. Are they something you particularly enjoy doing?
Remixes have always been something we have found relatively easy, as long as we are feeling the original track, as they provide a base starting point for a track.
Nine times out of ten the remix sounds nothing like the original (take our remix of Rusko 'Somebody to Love' as an example, above), and is essentially an original track with one or two aspects of the record we are remixing. It's always lots of fun.
Is there a different approach you have to take with a remix as opposed an original production?
Not especially. We just enjoy making music whether that's remixing or original production.
What can we look forward to with your set at Ministry Of Sound on the 21st?
Tonnes of exclusive Sigma tracks and remixes, hands in the air moments and a few harder edged tracks for good measure.
Is London somewhere you particularly enjoy playing?
London is always a great city to play in, and we have played some of our favourite sets there.
Any forthcoming productions or remix news you can let us in on?
We're keeping schtum on that front for the time being. Our next single is almost ready though, and we are very excited! To hear it come down to the night!
And finally, what is the rest of your summer looking like? What festivals will you be hitting over the sunnier months?
Summer is insanely busy. We have gigs and tours booked for the US, in Australia and New Zealand and of course Europe. We are looking forward to playing sets in Ibiza, Belgium and all over really.
UK festival highlights are probably going to be Reading & Leeds, EDC, Glastonbury, Secret Garden Party, and Bestival.
