One man you will be hearing a lot about in the future is David Zowie. The DJ and producer has been a favourite of BBC Radio rave doyens Annie Mac and Mistajam, and as our latest mix (listen below) showcases, a DJ of clear renown on the house circuit.
His track 'House Every Weekend' is a stone cold summer anthem, and this weekend you can catch him at Ministry of Sound as he takes his next step to greatness. We caught up with him to discuss the mix and his imminent future.
So you’ve recorded a mix for us, thank you. Can you tell us a bit about it?
Yeah it's a good up beat energising mix, short and sweet meant to keep you wanting more!
Does this mix represent the kind of set you’ve been playing recently?
Yes. If you've been to any events I've played so far, I tend to stick to playing bass, tech, sometimes minimal house along with some vocals thrown in to take you on a rave journey, rather than just speeding through the same tracks that the DJ before played.
You’ll be hitting Ministry of Sound with Denney on May 23rd. Is the club somewhere you've enjoyed playing before? How do you find the scene in London generally?
I've never played Ministry before so I'm looking forward to it for sure. As for London it will always be the home of trendsetting when it comes to underground music along with fashion and hairstyling [laughs].
You need London on your side if you're to make any real impact especially in the dance world.
Of course you've got ‘House Every Weekend’ due for release in a few weeks (stream it above), what has the reaction been to it so far?
It's been crazy! The hype took off in the U.S and various parts of Europe before the UK's mainstream jumped on it. It's become a movement for people who can relate to the nine-to-five everyday struggle we face and just want to let go and have fun.
It's such an overwhelming experience for me and I'm very much grateful for that.
How are you adjusting to all these props and increased exposure?
It's been good the only thing I can do right now is learn as much as I can and stay humble in the process whilst having fun. It's all a blessing.
What’s the rest of your summer looking like, anything you’re particularly looking forward to?
Well I'm definitely looking forward to doing some more events with Ministry of course and obviously touching some festivals such as Outbreak, Parked Out and lots of Ibiza parties!
Any final words?
Yeah - I just want to say thanks for the support from everyone that is hammering 'House Every Weekend' right now.
The release date is 14th June which was pushed back due to circumstances beyond my control but I hope everyone will support the movement as it's something that's pretty much long over due in the UK, since the eighties acid house era and late nineties and early 2000s garage rave scene. It's time to take it home properly, this truly is the year!
