If ever a word is prone to hyperbole, it's legend. Bandied around with indiscriminate ease, music does throw up a handful of irrefutable stars who thoroughly deserve the accolade.
In hip-hop, Slick Rick practically basks in the term. Having spent the early years of his childhood in the UK, he relocated to the Bronx, New York and consequently fell in love with hip-hop, his silky smooth voice making him one of the undisputed stars of the genre's golden age.
His 1988 debut LP The Great Adventures of Slick Rick is an undeniable classic, crafting the immortal 'Children's Story' which helped solidify his status as one of, if not the, greatest story telling rapper of all time.
Due to court complications he hasn't performed in the UK since the last century, making the return of the ruler to these shores to Manchester's Mantra Warehouse on Friday 25th November one of the most hotly anticipated UK hip hop shows of 2016.
