In the intimate confines of the Soup Kitchen basement, some of the best local and international DJs, bands and musicians showcase their skills to the venue's Manchester crowds. Although they host an abundance of events every month, the quantity never means they sacrifice quality. We take a look at what one of the city's prime party spots has lined up for February.
Kicking the month off on Thursday 5th February is Banana Hill who welcome genre bending Quantic for a DJ set. The Tru Thoughts label mainstay is a dab hand at beat making and dub cutting, expect a set that touches on everything from bass to jazz. The following day Zutekh take over the venue to celebrate their sixth birthday with deep house master Underground Paris (check out his Back to Basics podcast below).
On Saturday 7th High Bank will be hosting their launch event with Richelle taking the headline spot. The elusive producer has created some of the most novel club music around and has had huge support from Oneman, DJ Slow and Cashmere Cat. Fast forward to Wednesday 11th and cult hero Richard Dawson brings his signature folk tales in a inimitable style for a powerful live performance.
The next day Brooklyn Dub bring one of the three Wolf Music producers, Medlar, to Manchester. Support on this night comes from growing talent Hidden Spheres. On Friday 13th Bok Bok will be playing all night long for Obscure, unleashing his trademark grime and house sounds (have a listen to his RA set below).
Onto Tuesday 17th and all female Japanese three-piece band Nisennenmondai perform their signature raw and danceable tracks live at Soup Kitchen. Moving forward to Thursday 19th and Labour Of Love present house and disco heavyweight Gerd Janson. The Running Back imprint boss will be joined by illustrious producer Krystal Klear.
Soup Kitchen, Meandyou and FutureEverything team up to take over both of the venues floors on Friday 27th February. Anthony Naples, of Four Tet's Text Records headlines alongside Lee Gamble and more.
