This April Electric Deluxe Presents – EDLX’s forward-thinking techno party – toasts four years on the circuit, with a stellar German cast that lands in London at Electric Brixton on April 28th.

As part of its full-on birthday weekender – which begins in Lausanne with Phil Kieran and Thierry Collado – EDP brings a slice of Berlin and Berghain to London next, courtesy of Marcel Dettmann, Marcel Fengler and the esteemed Sandwell District live.

As ever, proceedings are hosted by Mr Electric Deluxe himself, Speedy J, so we caught up with him for a quick chat.

How has your year been so far? What have been the highlights?
Ok cheers, this interview.

Have your tastes evolved much? What’s exciting you musically recently?
I’m all over the place. Recently I have been into German schlager.

Did you personally choose the artists for this Electric Deluxe Presents? How did you choose?
Natalie and I flipped coins in a game of roulette timetables - that’s just how we roll.

You have a Brendon Moeller LP coming out soon – how did you hook up with him?
Via email. We also Skype now and then.

What else has the label got coming up?
We have an EP by Hans Bouffmyhre coming out soon, plus a new EP by Brendon Moeller with remixes by Ben Klock, CV313 and Craig MC Whinney. Plus we'll be doing a 4-year anniversary compilation curated by label residents.

What should people expect from you at LWE in London?
Banging techno played very loud.

How often do you switch up the contents of your record bag/USB stick?
I wish it was an USB stick but unfortunately I’m still lugging equipment around. I change up my selection for every set, I play with Traktor and Ableton so sorting through music can be done everywhere on the laptop. Usually I prepare on the night of the gig before or after dinner, unless I fall asleep.

What have been tunes which never leave your bag over the years?
All music is "in my bag" all the time, I have about 10k tracks on my laptop, I should start ditching stuff really.

What else you got coming up?
After the weekender we'll be going on a little family holiday, which I’m really looking forward to.

What do you like to do outside of music?
I like to cook, plus I collect 1940s white noise discs with Phil Kieran and Dave Clarke. We get together once a month to do swaps and try and beat our best times without crying.
