Dans le Noir, Clerkenwell

Nevermind all that atmospheric candle lighting - why not just go the whole hog and dine in the pitch dark this Halloween? At Dans le Noir you can do just that. The Clerkenwell restaurant serves diners in total blackout, for an extra sensory tasting experience. After a drink and a briefing in the (lit) bar area, diners are asked to store their bags, phones, watches and any thing that might give off light in a locker and led by Dans le Noir staff through a curtain to the blackened dining room, where they're served a gourmet meal in total darkness. At least you won't need to worry about food in your teeth. Find out more and book at www.danslenoir.com

The Hellfire Club, Manchester

One for serious Halloween fans, The Hellfire Club claims to be 'The UK's only horror-themed restaurant' - and boy have they taken that theme and run with it. Food is in a medieval banquet style, eaten in ghoulish surroundings with horror themed entertainment and burlesque. Alongside the restaurant, The Hellfire Club also run horror themed events, with a 'Creatures of the Night' event taking place on Halloween and promising 'burlesque, fire and gore'. Malmaison, Oxford

Fancy dining in a converted prison? Head to the Malmaison Oxford. This luxury hotel is housed in a former jail, and retains many original features. Thankfully the inmates are a little more palatable than those of yesteryear, and the only bars you'll be stuck behind are the ones serving up delicious cocktails. The Mal Brasserie is located in the atmospheric dungeon-esque basement, with private dining taking place under the bricked arches of former prison cells. Perfect for a dangerously sophisticated Halloween evening out. Find out more and book your table.

The Witchery by the Castle, Edinburgh

(Main image). As one of the most haunted cities in the world, there really is no better place to be at Halloween than Edinburgh. This ancient city oozes spookiness from every dark, cobbled alley, underground crypt and gothic turret - and The Witchery by The Castle is no different. Richly atmospheric and darkly ornate, this stunning restaurant nestled at the top of Edinburgh's historic Royal Mile is the epitome of gothic romance - and would make an ideal backdrop for a luxurious Halloween feast. Old Royal Naval College, Greenwich

For a unique evening out this Halloween, Greenwich's famous Old Royal Naval College invites you to dine amongst the ghosts in this historic building. The evening begins with a guided, behind-the-scenes ghost tour of haunted Greenwich and its eerie undercrofts, before ending in the famous Painted Hall, where a glass of wine and bangers and mash supper will settle any frayed nerves. £25 will get you a place on the tour, supper and a drink.
