Review of Mardi Gras 2024 Edinburgh

I have been many times in Boteco and also last year at the same event " Mardi Grass" which was great. But this time, it was a shock to see that the event which the purpose is to celebrate Carnival played 15 min of Brazilian music , and then the last 10-20 min of party which was around 2:40 am in an event that finished at 3 am. Selling tickets as £6 for not even emerge in the Brazilian culture in a carnival event + in a place called Boteco do Brasil.

Sad experience for us Brazilian to remember our culture in an occasion that is so important and special for us.

This event was described as a Mardi Gras carnival. There was nothing carnival about this event. It was beyond disappointing. There were dancers for 5 min and they weren't even dressed up. The live music was no carnival music. Everyone in my group was so passed off. A ridiculous effort.

I think the whole event was grossly misadvertised . The event was a small bar that provided some form of entertainment'. It should have been advertised, at best, as live music. No where did it provide a Mardi Gras feel or environment. 5 mins before it was due to start you could have been in any bar in any city; nothing implied Mardi Gras !!!

We purchased tickets for this event which stated it started at 9pm. When we arrived we weren't even asked for tickets which felt a waste of money and where told the event didn't start till 11pm

I realised this event was not suitable for a family of adults as it was more for singles in a basement night club. Not really what we needed. It's a pity there was no refund policy available. I was only made aware of the event and venue by my adult children a couple of days before the event.
