Review of GoldCoast Oceanfest
hate to say but probably the worst festival I’ve been to… love Croyde but this sucked for so many reasons
1. mega MEGA overpriced: paid £100 to get in which is fair enough for a festival of this size, but once you're in they're charging SEVEN POUND A PINT. For me this is so unnecessary and immediately put me off - especially as a student who was coming to this festival because it seemed reasonably priced & was one of the only ones I could afford this year
2. Drinks queue was at LEAST 20 minutes each time, only for your (rip off) pint to be warm at the end.
3. The festival layout was pretty poor. Way too much crammed into the tiny field and it really felt like everything and everyone was on top of each other. Toilets were only located at the far end of the field (opposite pole to the main stage) meaning they were always really crowded and were a five minute walk from the main stage. Would be so much better dispersed at various points around the field.
4. There was only one exit point at closing time, meaning there was a huge crowd swarming out of one tiny gate. For a family festival with lots of young children this seemed really dangerous and unnecessary as there were plenty of other exits they could have opened ??
5. Stewards couldn't make up their minds about the latest re-entry times. On night one we were told it was either 8,9 or 10pm ?? Then on Saturday we were told we could not enter after 6pm?!?! This is WAY to early, especially as the headliner wasn’t even on until 10pm & many people wouldn’t have even come into the festival ground by 6?
6. Main stage line up was pretty poor - especially for the 25th anniversary year. Dizzee saved the Saturday night but that was about it. There were a few good bands but they were put on at like 12pm when no one was there.
Still managed to have a great weekend - but from our campsite not the festival ground. My suggestion to anyone thinking about going, is book the campsite, then enjoy the festival from the sand dunes for free! At least then you won’t feel ripped off.
