Review of Fusion at Roadmender
As a friendless rave virgin (Iv got off with, the Drum'n'Bass Club, Fabric in London, and was groped by a small free party that didn't satisfy my womenly needs), Fusion@Roadmender was the 1st time Iv 'gone all the way' with a rave. Fusion as an event was 'the one' for me (look at me getting starry eyed about my first lover, the point is that it was a good '1st time') because it was proper old skool rave (I guess!). The tick*t price of £15 in advance was great value for the chance to come up close and see Legends whose names I remembered like Mickey Finn. Nicky blackmark*t, and DJ Hype. The main room was the main Old Skool section, and as such was Hardcore for the majority of the night as the mainstay of the rave scene, but midway through it became all about Drum'n'base legends. I dont like MCing so much on albums, and actually would really like go to a club that played pure rave music that wasnt so 'ravey', ie, the tracks from a standard Drum'n'Bass Arena Album as they appear in it with the musically beauty of the commercial track with beautiul girls voices and more melody in general, but the MCing, that took place on the mainstage, was good. By the morning hours I guess the crowd needed revving just to make sure they gave appropriate homage to those Iv mentioned, DJ Syke, etc. The 3 mainstage girls, who were so 'tidy' from dancing you didnt even notis they were in their 30s until you got up close, were technically talented. Their best trait was how they would occasional drop their props without letting it disturb there rythm. The hottest one had good skills, especialy with a hoop; the most veteran looking one managed to dance 'happy' with a massive grin on the her face for the whole 8 hour event! The smoking area on the roof was nice. Security didnt allow any liqids inside, so some people had their deodrants put aside before they could go in and I coodnt take my OJ. 1 securety gard burst in on a guy in a cubicle over party favurs and then said 'just kidding, go ahead', I was standing right there finking, if this gard drags this guy off, Im going straight into the cubicle the moment hes gone anyway and F 'the man', and basically went thru the adrenaline ride along with the butt of the gards joke. So they was chill with occasional 'police Alsation grumpiness'. Carlsberg was £4 which isnt bad for a club in a city, not OVERLY pistaking, which is better than at the only pub with a dancefloor in Brackley (what takes the P with the Red Lion is that its £4.40 for a Carlsberg in the pub normaly and not just club nights). I got the impression from my friends that it would be like travelling, you do need money, but you dont need anyone to go with Bcuz u will meet loads of cool people and make many friends, and I was right. One of the best nights of my life! And Im a straight, full sized, English Oaken hearted British Man with blood runneth red, btw.

Could only drop a point for poor fridge selection behind the bar and could've opened another bar as waiting times were above average (not staff's fault) for most of the night.
Music wise was top notch and air conditioning was very welcome.

Absolutely kicking night all DJs were bang on! Top Buzz was the highlight of the night for me keeping the tunes strictly underground like back in 92 with Mad P on the mic... total legends! Also good to see the DJs are keeping it real with the newer hardcore scene. Fellow ravers were also quality met so many friendly people.
Would recommend these nights if you love your old skool... definitely worth the journey down from London.
