Review of Cheshire Fest 2024
Firstly, the acts were very good - especially the wonderful Lisa Stansfield, Brand New Heavies & Lovely Lisa with Ben Santiago. Parking was easy as we'd prepaid for our space & it was within easy walking distance of where we were seated.
Secondly, I personally think this venue is too large for what is a small event. The VIP areas were pretty much rammed, but the main field was practically empty, even when things got started. We're used to huge crowds at Capesthorne Hall when we attend the Rewind North festival, so it was a surprise to see an empty field & as a consequence, the event lacked atmosphere.
Fortunately, it was an absolutely glorious day, weather-wise (though cool in the evening as expected), which was just as well as there was no cover provided should it have rained.
The security guys were awesome & sadly, had their work cut out for them at least 5 times that we witnessed due to altercations breaking out between, in the main, very drunk people. Heaven knows how they managed to get so inebriated given the prices of the drinks there, but hey ho. When Mark Wright came off stage after doing his DJ stint (sadly, he's not got much of a presence as a DJ & had very little interaction with the audience ), he headed for our VIP area, where he brought in 3 of his mates, two of whom (the males) were plastered. All three of his mates were escorted out of the area but managed to wheedle their way back in again later on. The young bloke in the checked shirt starting causing trouble again, and was once more ejected. Mark Wright should be more choosy about who he brings along to his events as paying customers don't want their experience of the festival spoiled by drunken guests of performing artists. We don't want to be witness to or be part of their drunken antics & trouble making, thank you very much.
As expected, the food & drink outlets were extortionately priced, & there wasn't much choice either. We had a small box of halloumi fries, which consisted of around 8 strips & cost a whopping £8. So, £1 per small, chip-size strip then. A bottle of Prosecco was £32.50 & served in a plastic jug with plastic glasses. Classy (but understandable, I suppose). We had to put kitchen roll over the top of the jug to stop the large swarms of wasps from getting in - they were real pests all day, swarming around everyone's drinks & food (out of the venue's control, I acknowledge). That said, it was the same last year at Rewind North.
Worse still, because there was a tapas place inside the VIP area, folk were stopped from taking in food they'd purchased at other outlets outside, which was absolutely ridiculous & very controlling. You can't force people to eat just tapas (which weren't tapas at all - they were boxes of chips with different toppings; not what I'd call tapas) just because there happened to only be that offer in the VIP area. For future reference, not everyone likes or wants tapas & should be allowed to bring food in to their table that they've purchased elsewhere on site. Heaven knows we paid enough for it. An absolutely stupid & unnecessary rule.
Finally, exiting the venue was pretty much carnage, as per usual, in spite of their being nowhere near the number of vehicles as there normally is at Rewind events. It was poorly organised & it took us almost an hour to get off the field.
In conclusion, the acts were awesome & the security team excellent, but I'm afraid it's a first & last time for me at Cheshirefest.

Review of Cheshire Fest 2024
The event organisation was poor:
- payment points at bars faulty non working
- no gin anywhere by 8pm
- food bought onsite not allowed in VIP area
- toilets out of use in VIP area
- only one heater working which didn't give off much heat
- no live screen to see the acts
- leaving the event was chaos and ground teams looked confused and didn't know what to do about how to leave the site.
- sat in exit queue for 45 mins and no cars moved. Our taxi left via the entrance. Chaos on the road and event staff stressed and voicing how fed up they were.
Felt sorry for working teams who were polite and helpful. Bar staff member said they hadn't had a break since 10.30am, it was 9.30pm. Cleaners were polite and apologised for the mess of the toilets and helped to clear tables to remove anything to attract the wasps - there was a lot.
Lisa Stansfield set was brilliant, shame no music on main stage 1 hr before main act.
