Review of Art Themen - Jazz on the Plaza
Another evening of high quality music courtesy of Mood Indigo featuring one of the legends of UK jazz, the great tenorist Art Themen. Excellent range of standards, including All The Things You Are, My One And Only Love, It Could Happen To You, A Nightingale Sang In Berkeley Square and Sonny Rollins' jaunty St. Thomas, plus slightly lesser known covers such as Blue Bossa, Clifford Brown's Sandhu and one of my favourites, Footprints (the late, great Wayne Shorter). That's it as I'm having to make do with a pokey laptop !

Review of Jazz on the Plaza - Judith O\'Higgins
Another brilliant Mood Indigo event. Judith O'Higgins and the band played a range of tunes; jazz classics, and a few from the album His'n'Hers (on which Judith duets with her husband Dave O'Higgins). A really enjoyable show, on a sunny spring evening. Many thanks to Janet for arranging everything, and the Café Yukari team for making us so welcome.

Review of Jazz on the Plaza - Steve Waterman
Great venue. Friendly and intimate atmosphere. Wonderful playing from all three musicians, Terrence Collie on piano, Marriane Wyndham on bass and Steve Waterman on trumpet and fluegelhorn. A thoroughly enjoyable evening.

Review of Jazz on the Plaza - Steve Waterman
Highly enjoyable evening in the elegant setting of Cafe Yukari with its signature chandeliers, excellent Anglo-Japanese fare and lovely Fazioli piano. No wonder Terry Collie is able to persuade artists of the quality of trumpeter Steve Waterman and double bass wizard and doyenne of the Guildford jazz scene, Marianne Windham, to join him in presenting some classic mainstream jazz. No surprise therefore that the place was packed out, with literally standing room only at the start. Great choice of covers, ranging from Alone Together, Jobim's Triste and I'll Remember April (how appropriate on the last day of that month) to two of my favourites, Miles' All Blues and Freddie Hubbard's Little Sunflower (surely a must for Terry's next solo album ?). Also interesting for them to include Jerome Kern's In Love In Vain, which I don't recall being featured before, but perhaps I need to get out more !

Review of Jazz on the Plaza - Steve Waterman
A really enjoyable evening, and a great way to celebrate international Jazz Day. There was definitely a Spring theme to the choice of tunes! The musicians were brilliant, and a very friendly welcome as always. This is a regular Mood Indigo event at the Café Yukari, and is highly recommended.

Review of Terence Collie Reminiscent Album Launch
For once I'm almost lost for words (!). Terry Collie's debut solo concert to launch his first solo album, hopefully the first of many. Apart from his terryfic (geddit ?) keyboard skills, most of the gig (and album) featured his own instantly accessible compositions, plus one or two well chosen standards, such as Caravan and You've Changed. Is there no end to this man's talent ? As John McLaughlin famously said of bandmate, Gary Husband (virtuoso drummer, now also virtuoso keyboard player): "Don't you just hate people like that ?!" In TC's case the answer is a resounding NO, we love him. And so did the packed audience at the elegantly-appointed Cafe Yukari. who were also wowed by guest appearances from talented vocalist, Esther Bennett, and veteran songstress and co-founder of Mood Indigo Events "65 year old" Janet McCunn. What a treat.

I have a really good evening when visiting Cafe Yukari for their monthly Jazz session with Mood Indigo Events. The staff are friendly and helpful, other visitors ensure that there is a good atmosphere and the music is good.
