Review of Jazz On The Plaza feat. Gilad Atzmon
Wow, what can you say ? Gilad has to be one of the finest alto sax players on the planet. Great choice of material, superb support from our own Mr Mood Indigo, Terry Collie, and wonderful Italian bass player from Quintet Blue, and hilarious patter from Mr Atzmon who even persuaded the audience to join in with some scat singing. The evening was only slightly marred by a picket line outside the cafe who objected to Gilad's political stance, as if freedom of thought and speech is no longer allowed. Ridiculous.

Review of Jazz On The Plaza - Jac Jones, Terence Collie
Unfortunately Jac Jones wasn't able to participate due to a positive Covid test, but was very ably replaced at short notice by ace trumpeter Quentin Collins who had only just returned to the country from Toulouse. Great selection of standards, some themed around Halloween such as Witchcraft, Old Devil Moon and Spook (Speak) Low ! Usual fabulous support from Mr Mood Indigo - Terry Collie - on piano. Super evening with quality playing all the way. And welcome back Keith and all the staff at Cafe Yukari !

Review of Jazz On The Plaza
Another wonderful evening of music courtesy of Mood Indigo in the elegant and intimate surroundings of Cafe Yukari. Great chemistry between Mr MI himself, Terry Collie, on piano and special guest, young alto sax hotshot, Tom Smith, on a series of standards, including Shorter's Footprints, Jobim's Triste, a lovely rendition of When I Fall In Love and a nod to Coltrane, but with a significantly different take, on My Favourite Things. And to cap it all, the place was packed with a highly appreciative audience. Great stuff.

Review of Jazz On The Plaza
What a magical evening of classic jazz. Not only a first for Mood Indigo at Cafe Yukari with a bass player (the excellent Stuart Barker) joining stalwart Terry Collie and guest star Mornington Lockett (tenor sax), but the additional treat of a rare appearance by the legendary Peter King on alto. Arguably the finest British alto sax player of the modern era, Peter still has the chops and the audience loved it. Another bonus for me was the choice of material, including three of my all-time favourite titles: Star Eyes, Footprints and Speak Low. If I had any influence I'd recommend Janet and Terry (ie. Mood Indigo) for awards in the New Year Honours for services to British jazz !

Review of Jazz On The Plaza
Highly enjoyable evening in the cosy and welcoming surroundings of Cafe Yukari, which featured guest Richard Halligan on tenor sax accompanied by Mood Indigo master Terry Collie on the cafe's beautiful Fazioli piano. Programme was an excellent selection of jazz standards, including a number of beautifully rendered ballads and culminating in a very lively version of "Caravan". Can't think of a better way to finish the weekend.

Review of Jazz On The Plaza - Gabriel Garrick
Cafe Yukari is a great place for chamber music of all sorts, with its wonderful Fazioli grand piano, as well as being a super cafe offering a wide range of snacks, meals and drinks - all thanks to Keith, his family and staff. On this occasion another in the long line of intimate jazz events organised by Mood Indigo, surely now the premier promoter of jazz in West and South West London, and featuring the excellent Gabriel Garrick (son of Brit jazz legend, Michael Garrick) and the ever-reliable "terrific" Terry Collie on piano. The first half was an inspired celebration of the 60th anniversary of Kind of Blue and the second featured a number of standards mostly associated with Miles Davis to complement the first half tribute. A total bargain at well under ÂŁ15.00. How do Terry and Janet keep doing it ? I strongly advise you to check out the MI website and sign up for as many of their gigs as possible. You won't regret it.
