Review of Brixton Disco Festival 2023
This was my third year at the Brixton Disco Festival.
Moreover, I have been attending events at the Prince of Wales for over 14 years and without any incident.
I had recommended for eleven other people to accompany us this year, after we had championed the event and venue. Our friends and relatives travelled from Glasgow, Bristol and Kent so we could meet up, furthermore, see Dimitri from Paris.
The queueing system to gain entry and wristbands was badly organised. One young girl was over heating and fainted, she had to be carried out of the queue.
We were unable to gain access to the Rooftop Bar and dance to Dimitri due to overcrowding issues. One of the main reasons we all agreed to meet at this Festival.
We went to see Marcia Carr at the BCA where the drinks queue was over half an hour and with limited options. People were leaving and purchasing their own drinks/refreshments from local supermarkets.
Once queues subsided at the POW, we found Security to be an ominous presence.
We had been thoroughly searched on entry, which I totally support and had nothing to hide.
On the rooftop, I was talking to my sister and had to lean in to hear what she was saying due to the speakers. A female security guard told me to stand back and gave me a warning. I tried to finish the conversation and was once again rudely interrupted and told, 'that's it your leaving.' When I questioned the security guard and asked why, the reply was, 'you're intoxicated.'
The irony, 1. I had no chance of being intoxicated due to the queues as i'd only had three drinks by this point and 2. I was in a pub.
I was ejected by male and female security. I was not given a chance to notify any of my friends or family of my whereabouts. If I was intoxicated, I had been forcibly separated from my husband and peers; leaving me no money, isolated and vulnerable in a busy/confusing environment, this totally contradicts the 'Ask Angela' and "Good Night Out Policy.'
I was by no means a threat to anyone or a security breach. I was never rude or confrontational. Instead, I was pleased to be with people I hadn't seen for a very long time. The Prince of Wales states on their website, 'everyone's visit to the POW should be a safe and fun experience.' In my case (and it sounds like others) I was met with unsubstantiated judgement.
This night has left me feeling humiliated and deflated after I've demonstrated continuous support to the Prince of Wales for many years. I hope the Security and entry system are reviewed with consideration to those who are there for a good time. After Saturday, I would seriously consider coming again due to the lack of appropriate engagement and militant stance taken to people who are by no means a threat.

Review of Brixton Disco Festival 2023
The price of the ticket did not match the experience received at the event. There were too many tickets sold for the capacity of the venues. Firstly, I queued outside for over an hour to get into the venue and once inside it was so full it was impossible to move around due to how over-crowded it was. To go to the toilet, you would loose your group for an hour due to having to queue to get back to the area you were originally at. Very badly organised and it ruined my experience.

Review of Brixton Disco Festival 2023
This was difficult to rate... The Pow Brixton venue was trash. It was over capacitated and we needed to wait over 1 hour in the queue to get in. The bar was a mess and the sound system was terrible. Luckily Electric Brixton was a beautiful venue where we fortunately had better sound quality and space. Disappointed in the organization of the disco festival at the start of the day. It was unacceptable to have the venue that packed where it was uncomfortable and you needed to wait in large queues.

Review of Brixton Disco Festival 2023
We actually loved the festival, particularly the free areas, but would like to complain about the venue POW. The security at POW was totally over the top. Aggressive. My sister and I got hauled out of the toilet and practically strip searched - having nothing on us obviously - she was having a poo. I will never ever go back to POW again. It was horrific.
